Business Development Manager – Islamic Finance Advisory

Salary: Competitive – (negotiable depending on experience)
Type of contract: Permanent (full-time)

Base location: Lahore – Pakistan (expected to travel abroad occasionally)
Industry: Business consultancy – Islamic finance

 About the role

IFAAS, leading international Islamic finance consultancy, is looking to recruit an exceptionally talented and experienced professional to join IFAAS team in our newly setup Lahore office. As member of the middle management team in IFAAS, the candidate is expected to contribute to the overall delivery of IFAAS projects and services, and will be reporting to IFAAS Pakistan’s Managing Director.

The prospective candidate must have a thorough understanding of the Islamic Finance industry and its dynamics, and be able to develop a strategy that would give us the edge over the competition. The Business Development Manager has to develop a pipeline of new business coming in to the company. This requires a thorough knowledge of the market, the solutions/services IFAAS can provide, and IFAAS competitors. The main duties of the Business Development Manager would be to:

New Business Development

  • Generate new leads through various means including personal contacts, partners, business sourcing websites etc.
  • Plan persuasive approaches and pitches that will convince potential clients to do business with the company.
  • Identify new business opportunities through market research and monitoring new trends & services. This also includes monitoring public tender announcements within the local and geographical markets.
  • Screen potential business deals, identify potential clients, and the decision makers within the client organization.
  • Plan approaches and pitches—to develop strong business proposals that speak to the client’s needs, concerns, and objectives.
  • Be familiar with the pricing structure of services to offer assistance to key managers
  • Set up meetings between the client’s decision makers and IFAAS’s management.
  • Handle objections by clarifying, emphasizing agreements and working through differences to a positive conclusion. Use a variety of styles to persuade or negotiate appropriately.
  • Develop / update promotional materials for the company (corporate brochure, website, presentation, social media)

 Business Development Planning

  • Track all business development activities, analyse progress and suggest new strategies based on findings.
  • Build brand awareness through attending conferences, exhibitions, networking opportunities, and personal contacts.
  • Present to and consult with mid and senior level management on business trends with a view to developing new services, products, and distribution channels.
  • Identify opportunities for campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in business.
  • Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop IFAAS’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.

Office Management and Reporting

  • Submit weekly business pipeline and progress reports as well as other internal reports (as may be required)
  • Assistance in recruitment of staff when needed
  • Support other offices when needed
  • Developing and maintaining external consultants pool
  • Assistance in project management
  • Perform other administrative tasks

 The successful candidate will have/be

  • A minimum 4 – 5 years’ experiences in the financial advisory industry or similar industry
  • Graduate Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Public Administration (Master’s Degree is a plus).
  • An excellent command of English is a must, any capability in French or Arabic will be a plus.
  • A very good command of MS Office (mainly Word, Excel, and Power Point).
  • Knowledge and ability to:
  • Plan, prioritise and implement required tasks to ensure successful, quality and timely delivery;
  • Manage projects, stakeholder feedback, evaluation and periodic monitoring/ reporting systems;
  • Draft professional reports & documentation and develop ad-hoc financial models.
  • Excellent networking, persuasion, prospecting, public speaking, research, writing, closing skills, as well as identification of customer needs and challenges.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills.

The post holder will be required to work with IFAAS product development, Shariah audit and market research teams based in different countries, as required. The responsibilities will include assisting in both product development and Shariah audit tasks, researching and analysing industry reports and client data, and report writing for the company’s projects.

 The successful candidate will have/be

  • A minimum of 5 – 6 years’ experience in the relevant field
  • Must have a strong understanding of the Islamic finance industry (ideally in roles directly related to IFAAS consultancy services i.e. Shariah compliance, market research, strategy and training etc.).
  • A graduate degree (post-graduate would be an advantage) in Islamic finance/finance/Shariah or other relevant subjects.
  • An excellent command of English is a must, any capability in French or Arabic will be a plus.
  • A very good command of MS Office (mainly Word, Excel, and Power Point).
  • Knowledge and ability to:
  • Plan, prioritise and implement required tasks to ensure successful, quality and timely delivery;
  • Manage projects, stakeholder feedback, evaluation and periodic monitoring/ reporting systems;
  • Draft professional reports & documentation and develop ad-hoc financial models.
  • Strong and well developed analytical and research skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills.
  • Professional Islamic finance qualifications would be an advantage (i.e. IFQ, CSAA, CIPA, CIMA Diploma in Islamic Finance etc.).
  • Expert knowledge of market trends and industry developments to interpret these within their product market plans to drive changes and developments.
